How it fights
A brute fights the way a falling tree fights. Once it is coming the only question is where you are standing. It gives ground grudgingly and takes it back all at once, and it hits hard enough that a mistake is not a setback but the end of the conversation. There is no clever way through one. There is only whether you can take what it gives for as long as it takes to give more back.
Field notes
The great bulls hold ground and expect it to be given. One will stand in a road because it is its road, and it will lower the head and paw before it comes, which is more warning than most things give. In herd they are calm and in the rut they are not, and the rut is loud enough to hear from the next valley. They go to water at the same hour and it is the only time the ground near them is safe to cross.
