Denizen

Equine

A heavy war horse, thick crested neck and feathered hooves, nostrils flared and ears pinned.

How it fights

A brute fights the way a falling tree fights. Once it is coming the only question is where you are standing. It gives ground grudgingly and takes it back all at once, and it hits hard enough that a mistake is not a setback but the end of the conversation. There is no clever way through one. There is only whether you can take what it gives for as long as it takes to give more back.

Field notes

The war horses that went wild kept the war. A herd of them runs a country the way a patrol does, in a line, with the lead animal choosing the ground, and they will turn on a thing that follows them. They graze at dawn and dusk and stand in the heat with their heads together. A stallion that has seen you will come to see you closer, and it is not curious. Fresh dung on a beaten track means the herd is using it, and will be back.

Where it is met

Met in Sworn Bastion, Broken Citadel, the Tangled Wold, Keep of Northern Karan Coast, Green Marsh, Strand of Northern Reach, the Quiet Fields and Pools of Northern Karan Coast, by travellers of levels 1 to 40.
