Denizen

Demon

A horned demon, cracked red-black hide with embers showing in the fissures, clawed hands open.

How it fights

A caster is dangerous at a distance and considerably less so once you have closed. It spends the opening of a fight making the ground between you expensive to cross, and if it is allowed to keep that distance it will simply keep spending. Reaching it is the whole fight. What happens after you arrive is usually brief.

Field notes

The demons come up where the ground has been made ready for them, by fire, by killing, by a bargain, and they stay where the readiness holds. The rock is warm around them and the ash does not settle. They talk, and every word is a door held open for you to walk through, and the walking is the whole of what they want. Embers in the seams of the hide brighten before it moves.

Where it is met

Met in Sealed Keep, Old Weald of Northern Karan Coast, Close Thicket of Karan Heartland, Turret of Northern Reach, the Pillared Temple, the Abandoned Sanctum, Grey Keep and the High Eyrie, by travellers of levels 1 to 40.
