The copper played out in the treaty years and the mine was written off, which in Karan's east is a formal act with a seal on it. The goblins moved in the same season, and the east shrugged: vermin in a spent working, a militia problem at worst. That was four generations ago, and the goblins have not stopped digging since, past the copper, past the maps, past any seam a sane surveyor would chase.
They dig toward something. The warren-song, heard through a gallery wall, keeps one rhythm at every depth, and the deep galleries are dug with a care the upper ones lack, as if the work were approaching something that must not be startled. The Chronicle files the Warrens beside the other pre-scourge questions: what is under the east that was worth four generations of a people's digging, and who told them where to dig.
The Cinder Warrens lies in —. Adventurers of levels 10–16 find their measure here.
