How it fights
A skirmisher will not stand and trade, and cannot be made to. It arrives, cuts, and is somewhere else before your answer lands, and the frustration of swinging at the space it just left is not a side effect of the fight but most of how it is won. There is very little of it to kill. Catching it is the entire problem, and everything spent on empty air is spent all the same.
Field notes
The great rats live where people do and thrive there, in the walls, the drains, the granary, the ship, and they are the first creature a new place gets and the last a dead one keeps. They run the same lines along the walls and the lines are greasy where the fur has rubbed. They gnaw to keep the teeth down and will gnaw anything. Where they are many the cats have given up.
