Denizen

Undead

A dried corpse in rotted mail, jaw fixed open, a dull light held in the eye sockets.

How it fights

A predator fights like something that has done this before and expects to again. It opens carefully, watches what you do with the first exchange, and commits only when the answer suits it. Nothing about it is overwhelming and nothing about it is forgiving either: it will take any opening you leave, and it is patient enough to wait for one rather than make its own.

Field notes

The dead that walk keep to where they died or where they were buried, and they do not tire and they do not lose interest. They are slower than the living and never stop, and a party that outwalks them at dusk meets them again at dawn. They come at sound and at light and at warmth. A ground where the birds will not settle and the grass grows in a ring around bare earth is a ground where they are lying, and they lie shallow.

Where it is met

Met in Streets of Western Ocean, Where the Scourge Turned, the Buried Ruin, the Glass Waste, the Risen Shore, Silted Quarter, Silent Ruin and Blind Warren of Sundering Wall, by travellers of levels 10 to 40.
