The fort was the ice road's northern light, built by the old kingdom to watch a frontier nobody believed needed watching, and its last relief marched in the onslaught's second year and never arrived. The garrison stood its post regardless. It stands it still: the beacon lit, the walls patrolled, the watch-log kept in a hand that stopped being warm a century back, waiting on a relief column that is three hundred years late.
The clans detour around the Rimewatch out of respect, not fear; a garrison that keeps faith that long has earned the ice's version of reverence. What raises the Chronicle's interest is the beacon itself, because the Rimewatch was built as a SIGNAL fort, one link in a chain, and lately, say the clans, it has begun burning in patterns. The dead garrison is not warming itself. It is REPORTING, north to south along a chain that no longer exists, and the one message a signalman repeats is a message he believes has not yet been acknowledged.
The Rimewatch lies in —. Adventurers of levels 22–30 find their measure here.
