How it fights
A brute fights the way a falling tree fights. Once it is coming the only question is where you are standing. It gives ground grudgingly and takes it back all at once, and it hits hard enough that a mistake is not a setback but the end of the conversation. There is no clever way through one. There is only whether you can take what it gives for as long as it takes to give more back.
Field notes
The great apes keep to the trees and the rock and come to the ground for water and quarrel. They are curious before they are angry, and the curiosity is the dangerous part: one will come close to look at a fire, a pack, a shining thing, and it does not know how strong it is. They beat the ground when they want a stranger gone and mean it. A troop's noise carries a long way and stops all at once when something is wrong.
