Greyhythe is a working landing on a grey shore, built in a hurry when the old west road died and never quite finished since: a port of second chances, where the coasting trade puts in, the divers' guild keeps its western hall, and nobody asks what your name was in the town you left. It stands nearest of all the living ports to the Drowned Stair, and has made a wary trade of it, selling passage and provisions to everyone the deep draws. The drowned hosts massing in the tide-caves up the coast have lately made the town's famous tolerance feel less like broad-mindedness and more like a border town's instinct: Greyhythe has always known, better than the capitals, exactly how thin the line between the shores runs.
