Westmarch is mills and drovers on the eastern road, less grand than Aldenmoor and better fed than anywhere: the heartland's grain crosses its weighbridges, and the town was built by the carters who got tired of hauling past the spot. Its one great year was the onslaught's second, when the refugee columns came down the eastern road and Westmarch, with no walls to hide behind, simply fed them, all of them, for a season, milling around the clock and writing the crown an invoice afterward that Caer Vaneth framed instead of paying. The Harvest fair is fixed here in memory of it. Westmarch is richer than it looks, richer even than its neighbours suspect, and the town's quiet families prefer it that way.
