The great western trading port was the treaty's economic clause made town: the four crowns needed somewhere neutral enough for Karan's goods and Auldmere's coin to meet without a feud attached, and the Quay obliged by having no history at all, a built-to-purpose port raised on a surveyed shore in a single generation. Half of what Karan sells crosses its wharves, and its harbour ledger is, by standing joke, the only document all four crowns have ever agreed on. The Quay's own founding story is that it has none, which its burghers insist is the secret of its peace: nobody has ever died for Eastwatch Quay, and the town intends to keep the record clean.
