The hall under the shelf ice drowned with its congregation in it, in the old kingdom's day, and the singing did not stop. It has not stopped since. The singers have not surfaced, the song has not repeated, and the ice above the hall never freezes to the seabed however hard the winter, as if the water itself refuses to close the venue.
The clans call it holy and the drowned hosts, notably, call it NOTHING: the sea's dead, who muster everywhere else in the northern water, give the Choir the same wide berth the living do. Whatever the song serves, it is not the tide-debt and not the Massing. The Chronicle's one firm finding is about the music itself: transcribed and played above, the Choir's line harmonises with the hum the ice-clans record under the deep shelf, the one the Primordial Choir sings. Two choirs, one chord, and the world between them beginning, very slowly, to resonate.
