Denizen

Aberration

A floating aberration, a lobed body ringed with unmatched eyes and thin trailing tentacles.

How it fights

A caster is dangerous at a distance and considerably less so once you have closed. It spends the opening of a fight making the ground between you expensive to cross, and if it is allowed to keep that distance it will simply keep spending. Reaching it is the whole fight. What happens after you arrive is usually brief.

Field notes

The aberrations belong to no ground and are found where the ground is wrong: where the walls run at angles that do not meet, where the water stands uphill. They drift rather than walk and watch with more eyes than they need. They are not hungry as other things are hungry. A place gone quiet with the animals fled and the moss grown pale is a place one has taken, and the taking is not finished.

Where it is met

Met in the Massing, the Ash Swarm, Patient Maze, Gullet of Sereth Isles, the Drowned Sanctum, Blind Undercroft, Meltway of White Interior and Wind-Scoured Strand, by travellers of levels 5 to 40.

What it leaves

Worth hunting for the ward and fire resistance it leaves behind, when it leaves anything.
