the Forsaken Road

The Forsaken Road is what the clans call the under-galleries now, and the name is exact: the ice kept them and the ice is letting them go, and the forsaken walk out of the deep galleries in file, a migration of the kept dead toward the crack. They do not hunt, they do not turn aside, they walk, generations of the ice's dead in one column, and the clans that shadow the column have run out of elders old enough to say what is calling them. Durgan's priests hold that the deep working the Forgewright's people abandoned under the ice has restarted. The column, they note, walks toward it.
