How it fights

A swarm is not one fight. It is the same small fight over and over until you are sick of it. Singly they are nothing worth the name. Together they are a subtraction that never quite stops, and whatever you spend on one of them is wasted on all the rest. What finishes people here is rarely damage. It is attrition, and the temptation to clear just one more room before resting.

Field notes

The great spiders make webs where things pass and lie beside them, not on them, and the one on the web is not the largest. The largest is above. They come to a struggle in the silk and to nothing else, and a watcher who does not touch the web can watch a long while. Egg sacs hang deep in the lair like lanterns. The silk is strong enough to hold what walked into it, and it was meant to.
