Denizen

Fungal

A fungal walker, cap and gills over a body of bark and mycelium, spores drifting from beneath.

How it fights

A caster is dangerous at a distance and considerably less so once you have closed. It spends the opening of a fight making the ground between you expensive to cross, and if it is allowed to keep that distance it will simply keep spending. Reaching it is the whole fight. What happens after you arrive is usually brief.

Field notes

The fungal walkers grow where the dark is damp and old, and they grow slowly and then all at once. They are the cave's own idea of a person and they hold still like the walls until they do not. The spore-fall is heaviest under the great caps and lightest where the air moves. A cave floor gone soft underfoot, and a sweetness in the air, means the colony is deep and the walkers are near it.
