How it fights
A predator fights like something that has done this before and expects to again. It opens carefully, watches what you do with the first exchange, and commits only when the answer suits it. Nothing about it is overwhelming and nothing about it is forgiving either: it will take any opening you leave, and it is patient enough to wait for one rather than make its own.
Field notes
The big cats are the ones you do not see, and the sign is what you find: a kill dragged into a fork of a tree, scrapes on a trunk high up, a track on the soft ground at a ford with no track leading to it. It hunts alone and mostly at night and lies up through the day somewhere it can see the ground it hunts. It does not chase far; if it misses it lets you go and tries again another night. A watcher who has been followed by one learns it afterwards.
