How it fights
A brute fights the way a falling tree fights. Once it is coming the only question is where you are standing. It gives ground grudgingly and takes it back all at once, and it hits hard enough that a mistake is not a setback but the end of the conversation. There is no clever way through one. There is only whether you can take what it gives for as long as it takes to give more back.
Field notes
The big cephalopods keep to wrecks and drowned stone and reach out of the dark for what passes, and they can be watched for an hour and not seen once. They change to match the wall they are on and hold still better than any hunter with a spine. The arms come first and the beak is in the middle. Ink in the water means it has decided to leave, and it is the only time it is not the thing you should fear.
