How it fights
A swarm is not one fight. It is the same small fight over and over until you are sick of it. Singly they are nothing worth the name. Together they are a subtraction that never quite stops, and whatever you spend on one of them is wasted on all the rest. What finishes people here is rarely damage. It is attrition, and the temptation to clear just one more room before resting.
Field notes
The parasites are what is left after something else has been here: leeches in the still water, grubs in the carcass, worms in the wet leaf-fall. They do not hunt so much as wait to be walked into, and a party crossing a wet place at night carries some out. They come to warmth and to blood already spilt. Whatever they are in, they are in it thickly, and it is not sick, it is theirs.
