How it fights
A skirmisher will not stand and trade, and cannot be made to. It arrives, cuts, and is somewhere else before your answer lands, and the frustration of swinging at the space it just left is not a side effect of the fight but most of how it is won. There is very little of it to kill. Catching it is the entire problem, and everything spent on empty air is spent all the same.
Field notes
The great bats roost in caves and old towers and hollow trees, hanging in a crowd that stirs when the light changes, and the floor beneath is deep and soft and not to be walked barefoot. They pour out at dusk in a stream that takes a while to end and hunt the open air, and they come back before dawn. Nothing that flies at night flies quieter. A roost that has gone quiet in the day is a roost that has been disturbed.
