How it fights

A brute fights the way a falling tree fights. Once it is coming the only question is where you are standing. It gives ground grudgingly and takes it back all at once, and it hits hard enough that a mistake is not a setback but the end of the conversation. There is no clever way through one. There is only whether you can take what it gives for as long as it takes to give more back.

Field notes

The saurians hunt the warm hours and lie up in the cool ones, on rock that holds the sun. They hunt in a spread line and the one you see is the one meant to be seen. A watcher learns the call, which is a cough more than a cry, and learns that one call answered from the side is the moment to leave. They eat where they kill and do not carry it off, and the bones lie where they lay.
