Denizen

Construct

A humanoid construct of fitted stone and iron banding, a dull glow showing in the seams where the joints move.

How it fights

A tank does not kill you. It outlasts you, which from the far side of an hour turns out to be the same thing. Edges dull on it and it is in no hurry whatsoever. What it takes from you is patience and every consumable you thought to bring; fights like this end when somebody runs out, and it has nothing left to run out of.

Field notes

A construct does not wander. It was set somewhere and it is there, and if it is not there it is walking the route it was given, at the same pace, turning at the same stones. The seams glow warmer after it has moved and cool when it has stood a while, and a cold one has stood a long while. It does not eat, sleep or notice weather. It notices you crossing whatever line it was told to keep, and it notices nothing else.

Met in Quarter of Western Ocean, Waste of Scoured Country, the Forgotten Vault, Narrow Undercroft of Northern Karan Coast, Blind Gullet of Southern Marches, Wind-Scoured Foreland, the High Massif and Grey Foreland, by travellers of levels 1 to 40.
