the Drowned Stair

The Drowned Stair descends from Greyhythe's coast into the sea's own realm, a stair the old world cut when the water was lower, or the land was, the histories argue. The Still Ferryman keeps its landing, and his toll is the whole arrangement: paid, it buys passage through the drowned country, and the drowned hosts massing in the flanking tide-caves honour it to the letter. The toll has never risen in three centuries, which the coast's factors find more unsettling than any increase: prices that never move are prices set by something that is not selling.
