Cinderwatch

Cinderwatch is the only working port on the burnt coast, and it exists under plain sufferance: of the ash, of the sea, and of whatever in Vashen's interior tolerates a living town on its shoreline. It was built after the burning as a salvage camp and never managed to become anything grander, a walled harbour where the scavenger guilds land their crews and the south passage ferries coal. Its gates stay shut at night, its walls are manned in earnest, and its people hold the burnt kingdom's franker version of Vashen pride: Ashfall stays out of duty to the past, Cinderwatch stays because somebody has to hold the door.
