Holding more than one class, and the rite that permits it.
THE HALL OF RECKONING is the fourth hall of the Threshold, where the Pantheons weigh a soul that asks to be reborn. Rebirth is a rite, not a command. reckon opens the way from a temple of any of the three lawful kingdoms (Caer Vaneth, Thornhold, Sunhaven; Ashfall keeps no temple and its dead king judges no one); there you face the TRIAL OF RECKONING, a shade of the class you are LEAVING at its mastery strength, and only a witnessed victory opens the orbs. Then rebirth <class>, and you return to level one on the new road; a failed or abandoned trial waits a real day.
MASTERY FIRST. The orbs answer only a soul at level 40, the top of the road. Everything you ever mastered stays with you, waiting at its own level: your CURRENT class gives full benefit, and skills and spells from a class you used to hold are retained at reduced strength, shown as a dimmed percentage in abilities; an elemental affinity you once earned is yours permanently. Each mastery also leaves a small boon that stacks, up to ten.
IT COSTS. Each distinct class beyond the first makes levelling slower; the trade is breadth against speed and it is meant to be a real decision. info shows the classes carried and retained; story keeps the roads walked, rebirth by rebirth.
TWICE REBORN. The cursed bloodlines (help bloodlines) will not so much as look at a soul the Hall has not weighed twice: a vampire's court or a werewolf's den takes only the twice-reborn, and their trial comes after the Reckoning's, not instead of it.
