The White March is Karan's cold northern shoulder, pine and rime against the steppe wind, and this year the frostkin clans are not raiding through it but MOVING, whole camps in migration south, driven off the ice by something they will not fight. The east reads that refusal carefully: frostkin fight everything. A hidden cult of Ysvane watches the migration from the treeline and files its own reports, and the March fills with the displaced, and the displaced are afraid, and the east has begun asking what the ice is emptying itself toward.
